I'd like to give everyone a update on my training progress and also send out a big thanks to all that are so generously supporting me in this quest to finance my participation in the Police and Emergency services games in Melbourne.
Training: On Friday 21 March, I particpated in the NT Track meet, running the 1500 metres event. This was to see my progress, which reflects my dedication and effectiveness of my training. Also to get back into the competitive reality of running track with others, something that I have not done for decades.
It went well to say the least, it was a ripper effort! 25 seconds faster than my previous personal best (where i time myself, by myself on the track ) A new personal record of 5'28"!!! I was over the moon with this result. I am definetly looking at another ten seconds faster at least on race day. This should put me in contention for the gold medal. But of course, you never know who may turn up on the day. Albeit, my time is equal to the to fifteen Australiasia masters records, so thats pretty coool
800 metres is my next time trial. There is no event inbetween now and race day in Melborne, however I will TT myself in a week. Going by training it looks like the TT result will be a new personal record for myself.
Triathlon: Competing in the Darwin tri club sprint event triathlons, I improved my result last Sunday by over 20 places and over five minutes quicker. Stronger in all three disciplines, I am starting to find my marks and old triathlon legs again. So it looks promising for Melbourne.
Funds: I do need another $1550 to finance my participation. This participation means a lot to me, so please tell your friends (real ones and on FB), show them this site, send it to them, post my page on your fb, send them the link and lets make a final drive to reach that target. Remember, unless i reach the $2500 target, the campaign fails, you pay nothing and i get nothing
Thanks to you all for your help so far, I find it humbling and at the same time so motivating . You are each part of my participation and part of the winning dash accross the finish line.
Thanks again, have a great weekend and take care
Two days into the campaing and so far as I write, $450 raised just by two very very generous people. Experiencing this helps restore my faith in the community & society. Surprise donations from people that are far away but care enough to contribute towards helping me realise this goal. I am gobsmacked by their generosity.
Thanks for making my day May you all be blessed in yor own way and beliefs.
Fire Fighter John
I have been a operational FireFighter with the NTFRS, since July 2012.
I have a comprehensive competitive and coaching sporting background since 1983, and still compete in middle distance track, road running (all distances), swimming, duathlon, triathlon.
I volunteer a lot of my spare time to coach the kids at the Darwin Athletics Club as the middle distance run coach and dedicate my time to helping kids realise their athletic dreams and become better runners and healthier kids. I am also on the committee as social media manager of Darwin Athletic Club
I also have just been nominated as head coach for the NT cross country schools championships team for the next three years, in association with the Institute of Sport NT, and Schools Sports NT. (volunteer role).
I also volunteer my time walking dogs at the Darwin RSPCA. Why do i do this volunteer stuff? Because I believe in, and I thoroughly enjoy helping others. Also especially for the kids, I like to give them decent coaching & training, something that I never had the chance of when I was a kid. And the dogs? I just love animals
It was in training the kids for the national schools championships this year, in middle distance track, that I decided to return to competing after a three year hiatus of competing. Having improved my 800m and 1500m times to a PB of 2'49 and 5'52 respectively through my dedicated and specific training programs that I create (and still getting faster), I do stand a chance of winning gold medals in my age group at the 2014 Australiasian Police & Emergency Games in Melbourne this Easter. These two track events wil be my main key races. However, in addition to that, and for the sake of it, (as I always love a challenge), I am also competing in the Aquathon (750m swim plus 5 km run), the 5 km cross country race and the sprint distance Triathlon (750m swim/26 km bike/5 km run). I do intend placing in the top three of each of these events. All this spread out over 5 days.
As I do give a lot of my own spare time to others, I am now asking for a chance from you all to reward me a little and help contribute towards sending me to Melbourne to compete in the Australiasian Police & Emergency games. The next step after this is the World Police & FireFighter games, 2015.
As a Firefighter, we do not get extra time off, nor get paid in any way to participate in this event. Participation comes all out of our own pocket, but thats ok because I have passion in what I do and believe in. However a firefighter in Darwin does not earn a lot, and travelling and lodgement to Melbourne is costing me over $2000. So that where you come in! If I can get generous people to buy the packages that I have on offer, then that will set me up to go. It wil avoid me maxxing out my credit card and avoid debt, something we can all understand. Now look at these packages, there is something for everyone. Run programs, run training, fire truck ride, its all practical & useful stuff, not t-shirts or a cap that you will throw away or gather dust, but something that will serve you a life time or give some kids memories for a long time & make then happy. Or if you just want to donate $10, well with 200 people that will be $2000. Surely we can do this together?
I appeal to you to help me out so now I can live my dreams, and still believe that out there others like myself do want to help others in our community, wether you are in Darwin or Sydney, Melbourne or Paris, France.
I have 30 days to raise the money. If i don't get $2500 raised then you don't pay anything. However if i do raise the required amount, then your kind donation or bid will be collected and I wil be able to live my dream and win those podium places.
Thanks for your consideration
